Workers used advanced engineering techniques to build the amphitheater in only eight years, despite its large size and complexity. The Colosseum could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators in its stands, and became the venue for the most spectacular and dangerous events of ancient Rome.<\/p>\n\n<p>One of the most popular events that took place were the gladiator fights.  <\/p>\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:55%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/d7mMzaGDYkz4ZBziP6\" title=\"gladiator\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n<p>Another popular event was the wild animal fights. Lions, tigers and other ferocious animals were brought from distant lands to engage in combat against each other, or against the gladiators.  <\/p>\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:75%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/qiDb8McXyj6Eg\" title=\"gladiator\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n<p>The Roman Colosseum has survived for more than two millennia, and although it has suffered damage over the years due to earthquakes, fires and looting, it is still standing.
